the B20 is cheaper than the B18C5( Type-R) if you have the money get the Type-R, but if not go with the B20 you can still get good power gain with mods

I would say the Type-R motor is better, but the B20/VTEC is cheaper. On the downfall, B20 parts are limited rather then the B18C5. Of course the B18C5 is faster and has a higher redline than the B20. So if you can find a decent Type-R motor for a good price, go for it and you wont regret.

P.S. louzerz dont be an idiot. Some B series motors come VTEC. B18C1, which is the GS-R motor comes VTEC, B18C5 from the Type-R, B16, B20, and you can covert it into a VTEC.

There are several possible outcomes and/or end results when referring to b20vtec or lsvtec. generally b20vtec puts down a lot more power than a typeR because they are built by the tuner to be a b-series monster. b20 vtec is not some thing that came in any vehicle from honda it is a hybrid motor using a b20 block from a Cr-v, mated with either a b16 head(Si or civic type r), gsr head(b18c1), or integra type-r head(b18c5) with a few variances in between when considering non usdm parts. Virtually any b-series vtec head is an option. You can build a b20vtec for far less than what a full typeR swap would cost you, but this generally isnt the route a novice enthusiast should take. You can squeeze a hell of a lot more power out of the right b20vtec build than your standard typeR motor, largely due to the fact that more aggressive builds can and usually are the goal of anyone building a b20vtec. or at the very least, you could theoretically make a 2.0l type r motor(one way of building a b20vtec) as opposed to the factory1.8l typeR. Hybrid motors can be tricky and give you a lot of headaches if it is not built right. you dont wanna just have your neighbor JoJo who knows a thing or two about hondas build your motor for you. USDM type R puts down 185hp. most b20vtec motors well exceed 200hp. Do your research. There are much more practical, reliable, options that i assure you you would be satisfied with. Had to add: Keep in mind if you decide on a b20vtec you will not be able to smog it (at least in california). All hybrid motors are illegal. Even If you were to use a stock B20b or B20z, it is a motor classified for small/light duty truck vehicles and are not legal for small passenger cars. With that in mind in addition to the fact that a full type R swap is VERY expensive, youre most practical choice would be to go with a gsr swap. TONS of potential. And theyre going for around 2000-2500 now.

It depends on what your budget is and what you are gonna do to the motor or keep it stock. In stock form obviously the type r is better. But with the right mods you can make a b20 vtec (crvtec) just as fast or faster. The frank motor combos put out good numbers if done right but MUST be done right for them to last. When doing these type of combos: crvtec (b20 block, any vtec b series head), lsvtec ( b18b or a, any vtec b series head), or the ultimate one k20 head k24 block.

First get yourself a set budget on what your gonna pay for the motor. Then find a GOOD used one and the misc. stuff you will need. But you can make any of them motors fast if you put the right mods and money into them.

i would go wit the type r...cus if u get a b20 vtec it will need some internal work done cus a stock b20 is not meant to rev up to 8000 rpm u will probably break a rod also the engine is not well balance like the type r and u would just spend more money for a good setup

The b series doesnt come vtec. You will need to find a head from a b16 or 18. The combo of the b20 bottom end and the vtec head will offers alot of torque and highvtec revs.
