'04 TLs have a better than average reliability history and, overall, are pretty decent entry luxury sedans. The mileage looks great for an '04.
It's true that Hondas and Acuras haven't been as bulletproof as they once were, but you can do far worse. Most older cars will develop issues of some sort.
If you really like this car, make sure it's either a pre-certified used car or that it gets a thorough inspection (a AAA-certified repair shop can do this). Check out the carfax history report. Also make sure the asking price is reasonable (find the value via edmunds.com).

I have a 1998 Honda Accord with 240,000 miles on it. Still runs like new. Never burns oil, gas mileage same as the new ones. My suggestion? do what the others said, get a carfax report on ANY used car whether it be Honda or Acura (luxury division of Honda) or any vehicle for that matter that you choose. Don't fall for looks alone. Go for the functionality and what you actually need. Don't pay extra for things you don't need in a car. And to answer your question, if the carfax report is good for that model (2004 Acura TL), yes, it is a good first car. Hope this helps.

I have a 2004 TL and absolutely love it. But I am a woman in my 30s not a teen. It is my first adventure in 4 door cars and I consider it a nice sporty feelinlg sedan. It gets pretty good gas mileage, especially on the freeway on a long trip.
55,000 miles is great mileage. I just hit 80,000 on my car.
Just be sure to have it checked out by a mechanic. As long as the previous owner has kept up with maintenance it is a very solid car.

dude you suck. Seriously. This is an awesome car, and the 2003-prior had transmission issues. I'm jealous. I'm 35 and still have an 02 RSX S

older Acuras are known to have transmission issues, but only the V6 models with automatics. it's a very good car if you get the stick-shift, but if you can't drive one I'd say just get a regular Honda.
